Why shingles age
Asphalt is a blend of two things: hard, solid asphaltenes and the oily maltenes that keep them flexible. Sun, heat and oxygen gradually bake those oils out. What's left is stiff and brittle — it cracks, curls, and lets go of its granules.
What ShingleLock does
ShingleLock is a water-based emulsion of chemically modified soybean oil, engineered specifically for asphalt. Sprayed across the roof, it soaks into the shingle and reacts with the aged asphalt — replenishing the oil phase so the shingle can flex again and grip its granules.
